Rock the Trend: Leather

Want to update an American staple for the cooler months ahead? Then saddle up in the luxurious feel of leather. This season look to the runways for clean, classic shapes done in leather; they will range from mod to rockerish to rugged and everything in between. With this versatile material, different finishes and textures also play a role in being ahead of the trend this fall season. So follow the tips below, and rock this leather trend!



Sunglasses. I know this is not an obvious place for the trend to start, but it will definitely be the most noticed! Grab a pair of great aviator shades with a touch of leather in the frame; this is a subtly glamorous way to wear leather. To really make a statement, make sure the lenses are a dark smoked grey or dark brown. It is also great because it is equally fashionable on either men or women.



Dresses. What is more timeless than a minidress worn over opaque tights for the Fall? How about making that minidress leather! Shop around for a basic A-line dress in leather in a funky color. My pick is a dark violet purple leather minidress to be worn with opaque black tights and a pair of high-heeled black patent leather Mary Janes. Can anyone say naughty schoolgirl? You can wear a dress like this with some great leather accessories or let it stand alone with a simple pair of boots.



Skirts. My pick is the jean miniskirt on acid. Try a dark unexpected color, like teal leather to update this fashion classic. The versatility of the color will allow it to be worn equally well with chocolate brown, black, or dark purple clothing.

Jackets. If you don’t want to pull out the winter coat yet, then try an updated peacoat. My fav for the season is a motorcycle jacket in velvety cinnamon suede. This jacket offers the best of both worlds with the coolness of a bomber jacket and the preppy allure of a peacoat all in one. Another perk is this jacket can be thrown on with any outfit and make you look instantly cool.



Accessories. For the people who live in the city, the messenger bag is nothing new. Try it in a simple shape with little adornment. The basic look of the bag is chic and will work well in any situation. For the jewelry lovers out there, a braided leather necklace or bracelet gives a uniquely artistic and bohemian feel to any ensemble. So now you know what to wear go and try it all on! Just remember to take this trend one piece at a time; otherwise you will end up looking like a cowboy. As with anything, practice makes perfect, so be adventurous in some new colors in leather that you may have never worn before and tone down some bright colors with darker ones in cashmere and merino wool.
