Choosing motorcycle jacket

If for a long time the good old leather jacket was the garment standard motorcycle, the last several years an explosion of textile equipment. The low cost of nylon over leather was in effect. Rugged, very good resistance to traction, very lightweight, the nylon used alone is not very appropriate because it does not protect from humidity, has a relatively low thermal protection, and if you fall, it offers little resistance to abrasion. But, so much the better for the rider, many other fibers were used to address specific problems: fiber waterproof (Gore-Tex, Reiss, Hipora, Sympatex) are barrier to rain, others make it possible evacuate perspiration (Tactel, 3Xdry, Coolmax) and liners provide warmth (Polartec, Polarguard, Primaloft, Thinsulate 3M). And to protect the biker, Nylon base is often reinforced by a nylon dense and more resistant, the Cordura. There are sometimes reinforced Kevlar or Keprotec, or even pieces of leather sewn in strategic locations.

Please note that all coats and jackets are all fitted with removable protection (of semi-rigid shell) and ridges generally foam anti-shock. But beware, it is sometimes marketing arguments and we can not know the effectiveness of its protections to achieve less than a test or even in Wallowing!
Some meet de facto standards EC (European Community) and therefore have a real capacity to absorb shocks. Other (as is often the case backbones), are merely slabs of foam tear very easily. But it goes in the right direction, it is clear that real efforts have been made by manufacturers.

However, the nylon is not leather. The latter is a true second skin, which is not the case for synthetic textiles, in the event of a fall, have a fatal defect: they melt. If the lining of the garment itself is nylon (or woven into the fibers of the same families as polyamides), the heat is communicated to the lining and, in the worst cases, skin!
